Skipper Thelma reporting
Saturday 21st March
Many hours of training, both on and off the water, was put to the test today with 2 of our crew taking Coastguard Assessments - and passing with flying colours.
Thanks to assessor David for putting Derek through his paces to become a Qualified Crew Member and Craig (finally) becoming a Senior crew member.
Perfect weather on the water made for a pleasant day - relaxing for some....not so for others.
Our cousins from "Hibiscus Rescue 1" were happy to be towed, barged, spun around and help us conduct a joint search for a missing person.
They were also happy to use our microwave to warm up the lunchtime pies!
We then took a short break, to assist a boat with an overheated engine and barge them into Sandspit, before heading back out to attend to another unfortunate patient.
Our training dummy, "Ruth Lee", was careless enough to have fallen into the water and injured her leg.
After retrieving her from the water, a patient examination and some TLC, she recovered fully!
Well done guys - David, Craig and Derek, looking far more relieved than they were earlier in the day!
(If you are out on the water in the next few days, please keep a good lookout for logs and debris in the water, due to the extra high tides at present. )
While we retrieved one small log, we didn't have time to collect / tow and stow a veritable tree off Scandrett Bay, which was referred to the Harbormaster, and many smaller lumps of wood were spotted.
Thanks to Andrew S and Tim for crewing, moral support and many laughs.
