Repair shop ready?

Skipper Thelma reporting
Sunday May 3 2026
This afternoon's page, repeated a few minutes later, was to a very straightforward tow of a 5.5m runabout, somewhere in Kawau Bay. (We won't give away the secret fishing spot!)
The 2 people on board had completed a productive afternoon's fishing, but the motor wouldn't start to go home.
As we arrived alongside, the black oil/ soot coming out the exhaust indicated it was probably an expensive problem, so we quickly hooked up our towline and cruised southwards to Martin's Bay. Within half an hour, we could disconnect the tow then nudge the boat ashore.
On returning to Sandspit and refuelling, we were asked to help a nearby boat on the moorings with a flat battery. Despite the best efforts of our jump pack and some TLC and muttering at the starter motor, the outboard wouldn't do more than produce the odd click. Another motor heading to the repair shop over the coming week!
