Skipper Paul reporting
Saturday was a busy day for Kawau Rescue but many probably didn’t realise it.
First, we went out at 1000 to do Glenn's Qualified Crew assessment with an assessor from Coastguard NZ. We hooked up with the Hibiscus crew so Glen could show his towing ability and medical knowledge with a couple of scenarios. On the way, we did a 'man overboard' in some very calm seas. Glenn did great and after some other tests and checks is now another Qualified Crew member, great work. Congratulations !
To celebrate we had a call out to a jet ski in Bon Accord at around 1330. The ski had "eaten up" a tow rope that they were using for wake boarding. The two gents were grateful to see us and were very embarrassed.
We towed them back to Algies Bay at around 6 knots and they retrieved off the beach. It was around an hour before low water but they managed OK by uncoupling their trailer and loading up first then pushing it to the car from waist deep water. Several others were also retrieving at the same time.
We finally got back at around 1530, washed down and did the paperwork. Thanks to Craig and Andrew S who ably supported Glenn through the assessment and with the jet ski job.
