Skipper Paul reporting:
Saturday's first callout was at 1230 yesterday lunchtime. The crew quickly convened at the boat and off we went. The tasking was for a 6m boat in Shark Bay in Boan Accord Harbour with fuel problems. As forecast it was light winds and hot temperatures. The sea was calm and the sky blue. We quickly found our customer standing on the shore holding his boat. He had ruptured the rubber diaphragm in his fuel pump so no fuel to the outboard. We got him into his boat and then towed the boat slowly back into deeper water where we set up a tow and took him back to his trailer at Sandspit. A quick little job that took around 90 minutes. Thanks to Brett, Neale, Dave, and Airberth Al.
Then having lulled us into a false sense of security the pager went off again at 8.05 pm for another 6m boat off Māori rock that had lost all power. Hoping for a jump start - off we went. The sea was a bit choppier but a clear night with a very extended twilight. We found our fisher people exactly where they said and it was clear that even with our jump pack it wasn’t going to start. The whole boat stayed dark, no power to lift the engine, and no lights. Probably a fuse or other wiring issue. We hooked them up and made out way again back to Sandspit to drop him at the Marina boat ramp. We tidied up the boat and all home for around 1130. This time all the usual suspects were there with Dave, Neale and Brett on board, also Harriet joined us, after she was back from back from work.
Special mention to several of our crew who also turned out early to sell raffle tickets at Coffee and Cars the following morning, at 0800. We may do lots of call outs but also fund raising is high on our list of activities. The Summer Lottery is here... grab your tickets now!
