Whatever floats your fuel card!

Skipper Thelma reporting
Friday 3 July 2026
Tonight's callout was to a 7m Senator runabout, broken down at Ti Point.
We were able to get around the peninsula pretty quickly, with a nice calm sea - (despite a wind advisory in force) and located the boat just on dark.
Our team quickly had the vessel hooked up to the tow rope and after lifting their anchor, we made good time around to the entrance to the Whangateau harbour.
While most of the boats we return to Omaha are taken to the main boat ramp, this delivery was a bit more challenging, as they'd launched from the Whangateau camp ground. We we couldn't get anywhere near, just 2 hrs after low tide.
Unfortunately the vehicle used to tow the trailer wasn't something that could be driven on the road to a different ramp, so the boat did needed to go back to the camp ground. And it's dark, with sand banks & mud flats everywhere. And yes, we're 6.5 tonne.
The boaties were prepared to walk the boat to the ramp once the tide returned, so we all duly snuffled our way up to Horseshoe Island, hoping we didn't leave them on the wrong side of a side channel. We pushed them off into the mud with Kawau Rescue looking quite the amphibian I think their evening was going to be character building!
We backtracked to the main channel & headed home - with the skipper very frustrated that our heater had decided to pack in tonight. (!$#@) That just takes the joy out of winter night Ops!
Meanwhile, at Sandspit, we believe the next new thing in boat fuel cards will be making ones that float...because the current one didn't, while topping up the boat. Oh dear!
All good and just a little late for Friday night dinner.
Thanks to Andrew S, Len & Derek for a smooth operation.
