Skipper Paul reporting
Thursday February 27
After a couple of slow weeks with the weather and wind, suddenly the last of summer isn’t marked just by the cicadas calling but also the sound of Pagers going off.
Today was a lunch time callout at 1222 and somehow everyone except me had already eaten…
The callout was to a black RIB with a flat battery and a position just off the South end of Little Barrier. Obviously, with the restrictions on anchoring in that area, they were drifting, but we found them relatively quickly not far from the position they had conveyed to Ops.
The day was even better than yesterday with no real swell and significantly more boats out. They had been motoring along when all came to a halt.
The battery actually had lots of power in it and they seemed to have fuel, so after checking the obvious and turning the motor over a bit, we decided to tow them back to Omaha.
We went back to the floating pontoon at Omaha to do the paperwork and walked the boat inshore for them over the bridge while the owner got his car.
Back to Sandspit for a fuel up and wash down then off home for tea. Many Thanks again to Dave, Neale and Luke again for their work 2 days in a row and to Len who also came along. Airberth Al was also there today too - I’d say to let us down but that feels wrong.
We'll be out training on Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon this weekend so it will be interesting to see if we get more training done or more callouts instead. Watch this space!
