Skipper Brett reporting

I was having a nice sleep-in, ignoring the cat who was reminding me it was past breakfast time, when the pager went off at just before 9am.....
I grabbed a couple of pieces of toast and set off to Sandspit marina where two local legends and former Coastguard skipper, Bruce and former secretary Glenys Milne were cleaning up after the SYC 65 birthday celebrations of the night before....

Our first tasking was to a broken down jet ski just off the south end of Kawau island. On locating our first happy customer of the day it was great to see they were well equipped with all the right safety gear. The father and son team had their fishing cut short though, experiencing some electrical issues, so we hooked up our towline, brought one of them aboard KR and headed for Martins bay. A good push and they were into the Martins bay ramp....
A quick call to Coastguard Ops on the VHF and another tasking to a runabout a short spin away at Motuora Island.

We quickly located our next well prepared customer with 2 POB who had just had his engine serviced. Whilst the 2 crew were keen to try a different fishing spot, the engine had other ideas and wanted to stay put ! After a quick chat we very soon had them under tow for Manly where we safely dropped them at the boat ramp....

Whilst the crew had ideas of going ashore to the coffee cart at the boat ramp, Ops had other ideas and tasked us to another vessel north of Tiri. After a nice enjoyable cruise and weaving around all the boats enjoying the perfect conditions we located our next customer for the "KR towline experience". The grateful trio must have heard of the amazing experience of getting towed to Manly as this was their destination of choice also. They also had an uncooperative engine, so we hooked them up for a tow back to Manly as desired.

After leaving them at the ramp it was a quick change of attire for President Dave who was thrown over the side to find coffee. Harriet didn't want to miss out on the adventure so joined Dave for the quick "plop" over the side into the knee deep water. Rob on the helm was doing an awesome job of getting us close in without grounding us but unfortunately his "eyecrometer" was not adjusted properly and mistook knee-height for waist-deep which ensured the two coffee hunters were now definitely fully awake and on "tip toes " in the water !

After a quick coffee it was a beautiful cruise back to the SYC marina to refuel the boat and bodies and enjoy what was left of a beautiful Sunday afternoon....

Thanks to the crew of Dave, Harriet and Rob and Al for meeting us back at the berth.
